Principal’s
Welcome Welcome to
Unity Junior High School! In middle
school, students are faces with many new opportunities and challenges. Middle aged students have lockers, they
change classes, and they have more teachers to deal with.
Our school may be a little bigger and the
coursework is usually more difficult.
Students also find that they are expected to be more
independent, more
focused, and more responsible than they were in elementary school. Most students
feel excited and a little apprehensive as they start at Unity Junior
High
School. Students wonder if they will fit
in, if they will like their teachers, and if they will succeed in their
studies. During this
transition period, it is important to keep the lines of communication
open. Talk to your children and listen
to what they say. Let them know that you
are there to help make the transition to junior high as smooth as
possible. This is not
only a transition period for students it is also a time of transition
for
parents. Your children are growing and
changing, and you can see their focus shifting from their families to
their
friends. As students become more
independent and socially active, being a parent becomes more
complicated, and
often more difficult. It is very
important for you to be involved in your children’s lives during this
time
period. You need to make sure your
children are making good choices and that they are doing well in school. Now, more than ever, you children need your
guidance, encouragement, love and understanding. The middle
years are an exciting time of growth and change in the lives of young
adolescents. By believing in excellence
for all students and accepting nothing less, we can use the middle
years to
build the strong foundation necessary for success at the next level. Thank you for entrusting us with the
opportunity to educate your children. Sincerely, Mary
Hettinger “It takes
courage to grow up and become who you really are.” E.E. Cummings |
