West Weekly 4/12
Unity West Elementary School
Friday, April 12, 2019

On Monday, we will be preparing for Spring Break with a STEAM into Spring Day.  Each grade level has different hands on STEAM activities planned for students throughout the day. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. We will post pictures throughout the day on the Unitsevenschools app and twitter.

Reminder: School will not be in session April 16-22 and will resume on Tuesday April 23.

Unity West 5K Results/Thanks: We were blessed with beautiful weather Friday night for the Unity West 5K.  There were 24 kids that ran the 1 mile race and 31 runners/walkers in the 5K.  The race brought in $650 this year.

Thanks to everyone who participated and to all those who volunteered:

  • Registration: Amy Benedict, Stephanie Grussing, Marla Howey, Caitlin Souza

  • Race Leaders: Luke Henry, Brad Williams

  • Traffic Control: William Bowie, Ashley Matheny, Brian Reedy, Andrea Shaw, Jake Shaw,  Greg Stierwalt, Rae Ann Williams

  • Also, a big thank you to the Sheriff's office for helping with traffic.  The deputy had her work cut out for her as traffic was diverted after an accident on Route 45.

Congratulations to the following race winners:

  • Youth Male Runner: Camden Fairbanks

  • Adult Female Runner: Camryn Reedy

  • Adult Male Runner: Greg Powers

Box Tops Contest Winners: The winning classes for the March Box Tops contest are Mrs. Backhoff (1st) and Mrs. Kallembach (4th). They each will get to have a pizza party.  The next contest runs through April 30, and the top K-2 class and top 3-5 class will get an ice cream party.  To participate, simply remove Box Tops from the items you purchase, put them in a plastic bag with your child’s name and the teacher's name on it, and have your child turn them in at school.  Proceeds from the Box Tops are used to purchase technology for the school as well as playground equipment.
